A 45-year-old man named Gregory Perez became New Haven’s first homicide victim of 2024.
Someone shot Perez at a Carmel Street residence off Whalley Avenue on Friday.
Police received a call about it at 1:54 p.m. Officers who arrived on the scene “rendered aid” until ambulance and fire crews appeared on the scene, according to a release from police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr; firefighters then declared Perez dead at the scene.
Perez had a single gunshot wound, according to the release. Police found ballistic evidence at the scene; Shotspotter was not activated in the area. Police have begun investigating the incident.
