Large fluffy snowflakes hit the shoreline with fierce intensity yesterday morning, lodging on flowers everywhere in what appeared to be a cruel joke. We are recording the event because we are hoping this is our final snow story in what has been a long winter season.
Our photographer Mary Johnson grabbed her camera and headed out as heavy pockets of snow hit the shoreline. All in all, about three inches of snow fell on Branford and nearby towns.
Here’s another group of flowers caught by surprise.
Besides snow there was sleet and there was rain and the roads were slippery. Here’s the heart of Branford during the storm.
Here’s how the town green appeared on the morning of March 31.
The stores across the Town Hall green looked forlorn.
Here’s a closer view.
Beyond the heart of town were lovely scenes along the back roads.
Driving wasn’t easy.
Here’s a river scene.
Here’s a boat all wrapped up, awaiting a real spring day.
All in all a winter wonderland as March went out like a lion.
By mid-afternoon the snow had stopped. The sun emerged and the three to four inches of snow sitting heavily on lawns and roads quickly melted.
Temperatures today ( Sunny and 50 degrees). The rest of the week looks good, too, with sunny weather, heading toward 60.
