Morgan Stanley Boosts Avelo Stake

I am amazed by the number of people I have talked to that have taken one or more Avelo flights already.

I was against it at first, but once you see how easy it is to fly to Florida, you'll want to see this airport take off and build even bigger!

I always support Tweed, however I still was just cautiously optimistic about how Avelo could sustain itself, only due to the fragility of being a new start-up airline. However, it is very apparent that their New Haven flights have consistently been full and there have been plenty of good reviews. Their early success, combined with this new financial support gives me more hope that Avelo can have a real shot at becoming more long-term. We still don't know where the 7th destination will be when they announce it soon. However, with this money and Avelo's plan to add new jets soon, I can now imagine New Haven to Chicago, DC, or Charlotte as real possibilities during 2022.

I am glad Avelo is doing well much to the horror of the few Tweed opposers. Still I am hoping for a hub airline for Tweed that can connect New Haven with the rest of the country such as United to Chicago and or Delta to Atlanta. That would go a long way in reducing dependence on Bradley field, and that will result in more jobs, more customers for local businessesand less hassle in flying in and out of the metro New Haven area for local flyers.
When one considers that Bradley has Hartford and Springfield as its main market while Tweed has New Haven and Bridgeport as its main market, both markets are similar in population and the shoreline has a higher per capita income. Its only a matter of time till another airline commits to Tweed.

Steve Brooklyn and Steve- yes, we need a carrier to DC/Atlanta/Charlotte and other mid-Atlantic and Southern major hub airports and also Chicago/Milwaukee/Detroit and other upper Midwest major hub airports to connect to international and cross country flights for business and pleasure trips.
Tweed needs to poll CT businesses that are in Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties to see what airport hub destinations are most popular for business travel, and re-poll the public as to what airport hub destinations outside of Florida have the most demand.
Then the southern half of CT will have an alternative to driving to Bradley, or NY/NJ or RI/Boston to get a flight out of state. Bradley should concentrate on the Northern CT counties, and Western and Central Massachusetts and on providing service to locations that Tweed doesn’t provide. That way they can share the market based on how easy it is for travelers to get there and what routes they offer that Tweed can’t or won’t offer. If the two airports co-ordinate dividing up routes, they can both benefit instead of compete. Plus we should have dedicated shuttles/buses that go from the NH Green and the 2 train stations to the two airports. That would cut down in highway/street traffic.

Delta to Atlanta and United to Chicago would cover over 90% of destinations flyers are looking for, no need for a poll, Tweed's present terminal is limited in the number of flights it can handle. Bradley wants the entire state, look how the state fought against Tweed extending its runway by taking it all the way to the SCOTUS. Airports do not "coordinate" schedules, Providence does not coordinate with Boston, neither does Baltimore with Washington National airport.
Tweed has a ready made market going from Old Saybrook down I-95 to Bridgeport and some of the interior towns. With some flights to hub airports such as Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, etc, it would eliminate the need for Bradley in most cases. Over the years Bridgeport and Groton-New London airports lost airline service due to the demise of prop commuter planes and their short runways unable to accommodate regional jet aircraft.
The state does not Tweed to succeed, plain and simple.
As far as international air travel, the state is bracketed by JFK and Boston Logan airports, two of the best international airports on the east coast.
I look forward to some airlines coming to Tweed after looking at Avelo's success. Looking for 2022 to be a good year for Tweed, time will tell.

Well, this is a far cry from years ago when an "incentive" had to be offered to Delta's Comair subsidiary to provide service to New Haven.
What we're seeing here is true confidence. The confidence Avelo and Avports have placed in Tweed with their investment in the passenger terminal, both short- and long-term, and the confidence investors have in Avelo's business model, I would think in some measure due to the airline's brisk East Coast business.
Mind you it's been only two months since Avelo set up shop, so let us be cautious in our optimism, shall we?
