City Police Officer Dies Of Cancer

City police officer Michael Hinton has died after a year and a half struggle with cancer.

The New Haven Police Department’s posted about Hinton’s death on Facebook Sunday afternoon.

The New Haven Police Department mourns the death of Officer Michael Hinton, who died today after a year and a half battle with cancer,” that social media post reads. Officer Hinton was a dedicated husband, father of two and friend of many. He joined the Police Department in 2014. Officer Hinton inspired us all with his unwavering positive spirit and selfless dedication to his work and family. Rest In Peace brother, we will miss you.”

A GoFundMe online fundraiser for Hinton, his wife and two children had raised $30,000 towards its $50,000 goal by Sunday evening.

Mike is a great friend, husband to his wife, Veva Alvarez, and father to his two children, Michael (4 yrs. old) and Nora (7 yrs. old). He will stop everything he is doing to help another person in need. He loves spending time with his family, working on race cars, and racing at Lebanon Valley Dragway,” that online fundraiser reads.

Mike has been a New Haven Police Officer since 2014, part of Class 20. Prior to becoming a Police Officer, he worked for Comcast for several years. Please help the Hinton family with a monetary donation. Any donation is greatly appreciated.”

On Sunday night, condolences poured in on Facebook for Hinton, his family, and the department he leaves behind.

Grew up together on the mean streets of wintergreen!!! Blessings Michael!!” read another.

This couldn’t have happened to a nicer person,” read still another post. Cancer sucks. R.I.P Mike.”
