I am so impressed, but not surprised, that the young people at YRM are making sure we know about the issues going on and look deep into the complex ways they affect people. Keep up the good work!

<i>On December 4, 2006, 17-year-old Justin Barker, a white Jena High School student, was assaulted at school. According to court documents, someone hit Barker from behind, knocking him out, and then others began to kick and stomp his "lifeless" body. He spent about three hours in a local emergency room for treatment of injuries to his head and face.[23]

Superintendent Breithaupt stated that the attack was no ordinary schoolyard fight. "It was a premeditated ambush and attack by six students against one," Breithaupt said. "The victim attacked was beaten and kicked into a state of bloody unconsciousness."[24]</i>

Why is it that any African American student would fell that the six students accused of the attack were the victims? The best thing any civil rights advocate could do would be to start by condemning the violence perpetrated by those six young men - one of whom was already convicted of other violent crime in another case. Then, the noose hanging can be correctly addressed as a hate crime over without using it to absurdly rationalize the attack on Justin Barker.

Because African American children are taught that they are eternal victims of a society that hates them. This type of mindset is perpetuated by poverty pimps like Rev. "Messy" Jesse Jackson, who stands to lose a great deal of fame and money if African Americans stop believing in the victimology he preaches. No one should ever wonder why these children consider the "Jena 6" victims in a day and age when people consider Michael Vick's dogfighting a part of "black southern culture".

The coverage of this whole "Jena 6" nonsense has been blown way out of proportion in relation to its importance on a national level. Where is all the outrage and bus rides for real victims of racial violence?
