A driver struck a scooter late Friday morning.

A driver in a four-wheel Toyota Prius ran into another driver” in a three-wheel motorized scooter, landing the latter flat on his back on the asphalt roadway.

The collision happened just before noon Friday in the crosswalk at Temple Street, between Chapel and Elm Streets, that connects both halves of the New Haven Green. Bystanders described the accident as just a bump.

The scooter’s driver laid flat on Temple Street.

Officer Mike Daniele said that the owner of the orange EWheels scooter, who had a brace around his neck, was transported to the hospital. That was mostly a precautionary measure, Daniele said. He’ll be fine,” he added. A van followed with the scooter.

Other emergency responders at the scene noted that the crosswalk doesn’t have any flashing lights, as the intersection of Olive and Court Streets does, even though cars fly by even faster and pulled-over buses can impede visibility.

An AMR van crew gave the scooter a lift to the hospital.
