New Haveners will be able to fly directly to Atlanta from Tweed New Haven Airport four times a week beginning May 2, as part of the of the latest expansion of flights.
Avelo Airlines announced four new destination cities Tuesday, bringing a total of 21 nonstop destinations it will fly to from Tweed.
The new destinations, besides Atlanta, are Charlotte, N.C., also beginning May 2; Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, May 17; and Knoxville, Tenn., beginning May 9.

Avelo Airlines today announced it is expanding service from Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport — Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) — to four new nonstop destinations: Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Destin, Florida.
With the addition of these new routes, Avelo will serve 21 nonstop destinations from Tweed, offering more nonstop routes from Connecticut than any other airline operating in the state.
Avelo will be the only airline offering nonstop service from Southern Connecticut to these four popular destinations. Additionally, Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop flights from Connecticut to Knoxville and Destin, and the only low-fare airline offering flights to Atlanta and Charlotte.
All four routes begin in May 2024 and will operate on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Introductory one-way fares start at $62*. Customers can make reservations at AveloAir.com.

These new destinations are great news, but we need flights to more destinations in the Caribbean, the Midwest, the Southwest, the West Coast, and to major airports that have connections to international flights. Once the runway is lengthened and the new terminal is built on the East Haven side, we need a major hub service airline to serve the growing Greater New Haven and Shoreline population needs for business as well as leisure travel and STEMM related travel for the growing area biotech/science industry and expansion of the Yale New Haven Health and Hospital system with a new world class research neuroscience hospital being built.
All the media buzz for Connecticut and New Haven, and the new residents moving to our state looking for housing, should put pressure on the state to build more affordable housing in every municipality and better mass transit systems to get people to work, school, and for fun all around our state and beyond.
