Wooster St. Restaurant Burglarized

Police arrested a 38-year-old man near Tre Scalini Restaurant in Wooster Square early Friday morning — after the Wooster Street Italian restaurant was burglarized, and the man was found to have in his possession restaurant property, drug paraphernalia, as well as a pry bar, flashlight, and knife.”

New Haven Police Department spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff sent out that arrest update Monday morning as part of an email press release with details on a number of investigations involving several incidents that took place across the city last weekend.

Those included a shooting in West Rock, two unrelated stabbings in Newhallville and Fair Haven, and the restaurant burglary in Wooster Square.

Duff wrote that, at around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, a 30-year-old New Haven man with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries arrived by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael Campus.

In search of a crime scene, police investigators canvassed the area of Lodge Street and Level Street in the West Rock neighborhood.

Detectives ask anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304.

In another incident, Duff wrote that, at around 9:20 p.m. Friday, police responded to 1450 Chapel St. for a report of a stabbing victim. A 32-year-old New Haven man suffered a non-life-threatening puncture wound to his thigh, and arrived by private vehicle at the Saint Raphael Campus.

Prior to the stabbing, police believe the victim and another man were involved in a dispute outside of a corner store in the area of Shelton Avenue and Starr Street in Newhallville.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304.

Roughly an hour earlier, in an unrelated stabbing incident, police arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his roommate in Fair Haven. That man is charged with stabbing his roommate by throwing a kitchen knife that struck the 41-year-old victim, who sustained a laceration to the buttocks. An ambulance transported the victim with non-life-threatening injuries to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police believe a disagreement about smoking led to the stabbing incident.

The 26-year-old man has been charged with assault second degree and breach of peace second degree, and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

And another New Haven man spent the weekend in police custody after he fled on foot from a burglarized restaurant in Wooster Square.

Police detained the 38-year-old man and found him in possession of burglary tools and stolen property.

And Duff wrote that the incident began just after 3:30 a.m. Friday, when police responded to a security alarm at 100 Wooster St. The first arriving patrol officer found the suspect walking away from the business. The officer attempted to stop the man, who then began to run.

After detaining the man, officers found in his possession restaurant property, drug paraphernalia, as well as a pry bar, flashlight, and knife.”

Further investigation and a review of security camera footage revealed that man allegedly stole several items once he entered the restaurant after hours. He has been charged with burglary third degree, possession of burglary tools, larceny sixth degree, interfering with an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers transferred the man to the hospital Friday for a medical evaluation. On Monday morning, officers transferred him to court for an arraignment hearing. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The Wooster Street burglary is similar in nature to several recent, over-night commercial burglaries that remain under investigation throughout the city. Anyone with information about a burglary suspect or investigation is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304.”
