There will continue to be incidents as long as there are juveniles without positive and productive or fun things to do with responsible adult supervision, poverty, substance abuse, and people who dont lock their car doors, or let their cars run without sitting inside them in the drivers seat with the doors locked, or other foolish things that make your vehicles tempting target for young foolish people.
If we do more to engage teens and young adults with positive, productive and fun things to do with responsible adult supervision, the numbers of teens stealing cars for the thrill of it and out of boredom will go down. If we improve the mass transit system and make CT Transit free or really cheap, then more young people could take the bus to the movies or to other fun things to do.
If we engage more teens and young adults into jobs through the city youth programs and we create more skilled trades and vocational certificate training programs and apprentiships in the cities and large towns through partnerships with the state of CT, and CT employees who need skilled trades and vocational workers, then a whole lot of poor towns and inner city teens and young adults could get paid jobs and possibly careers, many with living wages and life skills that would be far more important to them than the street life.
You want to reduce crime? Give teens and young people the tools to escape poverty and teach them the skills and give them adult mentorships to improve their lives.
