A 41-year-old West Haven man named Jimmie Lee Wilson died following a wrong-way, two-car crash on the Q Bridge early Wednesday morning.
According to a state police accident report, at around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, two cars crashed into one another on I‑95 South just north of Exit 48 on the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge.
A “preliminary investigation” revealed that one car was traveling south in the center lane of five on I‑95 South. A second vehicle was also traveling in the center lane on I‑95 South — but that car was driving northbound, in the wrong direction.
The two cars collided head-on, causing the first vehicle to catch on fire. The driver and two passengers in the first vehicle “sustained non-life threatening injuries” and were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael’s campus for evaluation.
The driver of the second vehicle, Wilson, “sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The case remains under active investigation. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Trooper Morales #1369 via email at [email protected].
I wouldn't even know how to get on the Q Bridge going the wrong way.
Let's wait for the toxicology report on the deceased to see if this is a tragedy that could have been avoided.
