New Haven To Make Remote Learning Pitch Tuesday

What is the use of giving a choice if the State can overrule? What kind of democracy is this??
NHPS sees the rise in cases around the world. We do not want our 20,000+ students and 1800+ teachers and hundreds of staff to be the guinea pigs for "Let's see what happens".

Go virtual for 10 weeks and reassess. Better safe than sorry.

NHPS doesn't have the ability currently to meet the required safety virus prevention recommendations. They need to fix their ventilation systems, replace windows that don't open, they need to have sufficient sanitizing and cleaning supplies and staff to clean all surfaces, and basics like soap, toilet paper and paper towels available in sufficient levels to insure that there is no shortages on a daily basis, and appropriate masks for those students who don't have the means to provide their own. They need to have a solid social distancing plan to keep students and staff 6 feet apart and sufficient space to hold classes in to manage the resulting need for doubling or tripling of classroom spaces in order to keep students 6 feet apart. They will also need sufficient staffing to manage those students in those overflow class spaces. Unless the school system can meet the necessary requirements to prevent virus spread they will just end up shutting down again with outbreaks, as other school districts in other states have found out the hard way after opening fully without the appropriate measures taken to stop the virus transmission. More work needs to be done, and more funds need to be obtained from the State to make these necessary measures a reality in New Haven and the other financially strapped school districts around the state.

There is still no plan or platform to begin Blended Education (remote) in the City of New Haven. Are the parents in the City aware that Zoom is not a learning platform and cannot deliver anything that will truly benefit students. New Haven's remote learning experience for students is doomed to fail if something isn't done quickly to put together a distance learning plan using tools meant for distance learning.
