An armed robber pistol-whipped a Citgo gas station clerk on his way home and then ordered him back to the business in order to clear out the cash register.
The incident occurred Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
The 19-year-old Hamden man who had just closed and left the station at 1978 State St. (near the state Department of Motor Vehicle) ran into the firearm-brandishing robber “moments” later, according to Hamden police Capt. Ronald Smith.
The robber “stuck the firearm against his stomach, while demanding money,” then “pistol-whipped” the clerk on the head, according to a release Smith issued Monday. He then ordered the clerk back to the stash, had him open the register, then “remove the contents.” The robber fled on foot. Hamden police are investigating; anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (203) 230‑4000.
Meanwhile, New Haven detectives are asking for calls (at 203 – 946-6304) from anyone with information about a shooting that took place on Quinnipiac Avenue between Essex and Foxon at 1:09 p.m. Sunday. Someone shot a 16-year-old male in the foot, according to police spokesman Capt. Anthony Duff.
