What were his last thoughts? The panic, horror. So Sad for the lives exploded by violence that remains unabated. Sorry for the children being raised in this. They too will be like the thousands already who have lived in and around New Haven for the last 50 years now. To those who exploit these young people to profit from their illegal drug rackets, those that do not care, You reap what you sew. Your poor children will become victims also. There is no escape until the violence is stopped.

I hope the NHPD puts as much energy and manpower into solving Kevan's case (and all others) as they did that Yale students case. I pray for this Kevan's family and loved ones to find peace as they grieve this terrible loss and begin to heal.

Elicker somehow always manages to make it about himself. The press release tells us "I was just on scene".

When did the Mayors office start sending press releases about crime? This was always done by the NHPD.


City spokesman Kyle Buda first notified the public about the murder in a Saturday morning email press release from the mayor's office.

"I was just on the scene, and this loss of life is heartbreaking," Mayor Justin Elicker is quoted as saying in that initial press release

I'm probably not the first to wonder what this young man was doing on a NH street at 4:10 a.m. The public would like to believe that these are just random acts of violence and I certainly am not approving of all this violence . We never hear any more of it after this-- this will be the last time it is mentioned unless to comment that I blame the victims (which I don't) I just wonder...

The NHPD puts all its efforts into solving every murder, DJKs - that you imply something else is rather stunning on an early Sunday morning. There is a pattern to these murders and in the neighborhoods where they repeatedly occur. Instead of focusing on the Q House, or launching more "programs" for the youth or doing any of these other virtue signaling shallow actions that give the patina something is being done about violence in our streets, about juvenile crime out of control and unpunished - maybe it's time to start asking the tough questions about how kids are raised in these neighborhoods, what values they're taught, how do you target and intercept the troubled kids and troubled households that send these people into the streets to deal drugs, get involved with gangs, rob, loot, steal and kill.

Noteworthy- I grew up here and went to public schools and summer camps here and I knew lots of kids who were not drawn into street life and were able to rise above their chaotic home life BECAUSE they had the Q House, the YWCA and the YMCA, the Boys And Girls Club, LEAP, subsidized summer camp programs and other organizations that provided responsible, caring adult supervision and fun activities and enrichment programs and positive socialization with their peers.
It's not "virtue signaling," it has been proven that when you provide young people with supervision by caring adults, and fun, safe and productive things to do and keep them away from the street life, and show them there is an alternative to the streets, that they don't fall prey to the negative influences all around them.
You can shake your finger at the parents and virtue signal to them about how they are raising their children all you want, but it won't change their circumstances.
Or you can support youth support organizations and summer camps and other programs that actually make a difference in keeping young people safe, give them a glimpse of an alternative life, and give them an escape from the street life and negative influences that surrounds them.

Someone knows what happened just like the rest of the murders ...the police cannot solve any of these murders if the no snitch rule apply on the streets..

Heather - then what's gone off the rails? The only thing missing in your lineup is the Q. What are the root causes for the spike in violence?

Noteworthy- the ywca closed in NH long ago. The Q house closed long ago. This past year and a half most schools in the city as well as most summer camps and sports programs and playgrounds and parks were closed. They took down the basketball nets and the tennis nets during the pandemic shut down. There was unprecedented civic unrest and protests across the country. There was the economic devastation caused by the pandemic shut down which eliminated many jobs and there were fewer eyes on the street to see what was going on. Anxiety and depression levels rose in the general population. Substance abuse rose as well as domestic violence and other destructive social ills rates rose up. There were far fewer distractions for young adults like movies and nightclubs and bars. There were formerly incarcerated individuals released from detention for pandemic reasons who then had no support to encourage them to change their lives for the better. There were old neighborhood rivalries "gangs" that got stirred up when people returned to their old activities and neighborhoods after years of being away. Many of the people incarcerated in the 1980's -'90's have finished their sentences and are returning to a completely changed society because of technology. You can't look for a job or an apartment unless you have online access. The incarcerated former residents of Church St South housing project had nowhere to return to. Our penal system has very little in the way of rehabilitation programs while you serve your time, so people are released with the same issues they went in with. More people became homeless during this past year and a half. Lots of young people do stupid things to post online to prove how tough and macho they are. Lots of illegal commerce drugs and guns are flooding into our communities. There are so many things that have contributed to our current state.
