Watch out New Haven. Watch out world. Candice Jones is certified.
Jones, 35, has lived since a child in rented apartments in a Sherman Avenue apartment complex. She has dreamed of going into real estate herself, owning properties, helping others — especially veterans — buy their own homes.
Jones first discussed that dream on the “Word on the Street” segment of WNHH FM’s “LoveBabz LoveTalk” program on March 28 hours before she was taking the two-and-a-half-hour licensing exam in Milford.
We caught up with her again in a Tuesday “Word on the Street” Conversation to see how it went.
“I failed by one point,” she reported. “I was kind of discouraged — but encouraged at the same time: It was like, ‘It was only one point!’”
After having studied hard for months, Jones wasn’t ready to give up. She returned two weeks later. She passed.
“I was ecstatic. I was glad that all my hard work paid off. I don’t club. I don’t go out. I don’t do the normal things people do. I just study, study, study.”
With her new license, Jones has a spot in Keller Williams Realty in Trumbull. She has cut back her hours at her certified nurse assistant job to half-time. She’s putting in another eight hours a day at the real estate agency.
Her goal: “To be a real estate mogul.” having learned about veterans’ housing struggles years back at a soup kitchen, she is in part focusing on helping former soldiers learn about federal homebuying help. Anyone looking to sell or buy a home can reach her at [email protected].
She’s also working on a 12-hour streamed “red day” telethon planned Thursday at the agency to raise money to fight childhood cancer. (Find details here.)
Jones planned to take Tuesday off, she said. “I deserve a little break.” Her plan: “Chill with my husband before he goes into work.”
After that? “Most probably go through properties, contacting people.” She may not be heading into the office, but Jones has dreams to chase.
